Your group stay in Kirkkokari
Less famous than Lourdes or Fatima, Kirkkokari is nevertheless one of the few Catholic places of pilgrimage in Northern Europe. This is reason enough to take your group to discover this small island during your group trip to Finland. This small island is located on Lake Köyliö in southern Finland. To get there with your group, you can fly to Helsinki, Turku or Tampere. While Helsinki is the farthest of the 3 airports, it is also the best served by international flights, while the other two offer only a few destinations. You will not be able to stay on Kirkkokari Island, however many hotels on the shores of Lake Köyliö can accommodate your group.
Since the 13th century, Kirkkokari Island has been a place of pilgrimage for Catholics. History tells us that Saint Henry was killed on the frozen waters of Lake Köyliö in 1156. Every year, the Catholic Church organizes a pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Henry from Nousiainen to Kirkkokari Island. This pilgrimage is 140 kilometres long and lasts 7 days. The itinerary is marked out for members of your group who would like to take part. Nousiainen houses the church that was built to house the remains of St. Henry before his bones were moved to Turku Cathedral. Even if your group members do not take part in the 7-day walk, they will have the opportunity to visit this church during your group stay in Kirkkokari.
