Hotel
Hôtel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert, BW Signature Collection
15 Rue De La Pie 33, rue du Vieux Palais, 76000 Rouen, France
This 4-star hotel pays tribute to the writer in the city where he was born and spent most of his life.
In a setting that combines comfort and modernity, punctuated by numerous literary clues, visitors find time to daydream and read.
Just 10 minutes from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Rouen, the Hôtel Littéraire Gustave Flaubert invites you to enter the world of Madame Bovary and Salammbô, to discover the author's passions and friendships.
An invitation to travel to (re)discover FlaubertThe decoration of the Hôtel Littéraire in Rouen was conceived by the architect Aude Bruguière, assisted by Aleth Prime, to pay tribute to Flaubert and make us enter his universe.
The floors of the hotel are organized on the theme of travel which was dear to Gustave Flaubert. We walk through a first floor dedicated to Normandy, with Madame Bovary, A Simple Heart and Bouvard and Pécuchet. It is then Paris, the place of L'Éducation sentimentale, then the ancient Carthage of Salammbô. One floor details other works written by Flaubert such as The Temptation of St. Anthony, then the small society of Flaubert and his friends, and the last one traces the travels of the writer.
The rooms are personalized around a work, a character, a place or a close friend of Gustave Flaubert: Emma Bovary, Frederic Moreau, Megara or Guy de Maupassant. An original watercolor by Jean Aubertin revisits the chosen theme, and a text by Hélène Montjean gives the visitor who wants to know more anecdotes and quotations from the writer.
