Getting to La Rochelle
La Rochelle, located in Charente Maritime on the Atlantic coast, is very well served by train in 3 hours from Paris. It is 470 km from Paris, 650 km from Lyon, 825 km from Marseille, 950 km from Strasbourg and 400 km from Toulouse. The city has an airport 5 minutes from the centre. There is a regular shuttle service to the airport from Monday to Sunday. Cityjet, Easyjet Flybe Airlinair, Ryanair companies serve La Rochelle.
The city is very innovative in its means of transport; La Rochelle was one of the first cities in France to offer self-service bicycles and now also offers self-service electric cars. And if you can't charter a coach for your group trip, there are regular bus lines, especially those of Flixbus and Ouibus, offering affordable rates.

La Rochelle is a very interesting city to discover. It is built and oriented towards the Atlantic Ocean and has 4 ports. It will be pleasant for you to stroll around the old port, guarded by its old towers dating from the Middle Ages, which show the richness of the city and its rich past. You can admire the Tour Saint Nicolas, the Tour de la chaîne and finally the Tour de la Lanterne. They date from the 14th and 15th centuries. The old port is very lively with its many café terraces and restaurants facing the sea. It is also the starting point for excursions to the islands of Aix, Oléron and Ré. The centre of La Rochelle is steeped in history, you will find traces of all periods, for example the medieval arcaded streets, the Renaissance town hall and the 18th century shipowners' houses. You will also discover the big Clock, an old gate between the city and the port, which dates back to the 14th century.
Many museums recall the history of La Rochelle, including recent history with the La Rochelle Bunker Museum, where the commanders of the U boats were located during the Second World War. The largest private aquarium that contains more than 12,000 marine animals in 3 million litres of seawater.
