Traveling to Brussels
The capital city of comic strips is located at the heart of the European megalopolis. Flying, taking the train or driving: many solutions allow you to reach the city, but some are more convenient than others according to your departure point.
The main international airport, welcoming most of the flights to Brussels, is located 13 km North-East from the centre. It will take you only 20 minutes to get to the centre in a train shuttle, or 30 minutes on a bus. However, some low-cost companies land in smaller airports which are farther from the city: Charleroi Brussels-South and Antwerp. It will cost you 10 € and take you from 30 minutes to one hour to reach the centre by bus or train.
Many travelers favor the railway; indeed there are many convenient lines to arrive by train, notably Thalys from France. For instance, a trip from Paris to Brussels lasts only 1h45.
Besides, you can also drive to Brussels, especially of you come from Northern France or the Netherlands. This is by far the cheapest solution. If your group trip requires a bus and you cannot charter one, try regular international lines such as Eurolines.
Hotels of all standards for all kinds of groups
In Belgium, the name Brussels refers only to a town counting less than 200,000 inhabitants. The big conurbation gathering 19 cities and 1,15 million people is named Brussels-Capital; it has its own parliament. Brussels is home to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe. This institutional concentration accounts for the hefty development of the hotels in the area and for the peaks in bookings at key moments of the year. Therefore looking for group accommodation in Brussels can turn out to be a nightmare or a good surprise, depending on the time of the year.
To choose your hotel well, you must know the different city districts. The historical centre encompasses the main tourist attractions. In the maze of medieval streets, take a look at the City Hall, the Grand-Place or the St Michel & Gudule cathedral. The posh Ixelles district extends southwards; it is the best place to shop and enjoy nice restaurants and bars. Eastwards, the European district gathers European institutions and businesses. In the North-East, Saint-Jean-ten-Noode is a more down-to-earth and relaxed area; it is well liked by visitors and harbors the Belgian comic strip centre.
Anderlecht gathers hotels of all kinds in the South-Western part of the city, being close to the international Brussels-Midi railway station. The biggest Congress center is on the outskirts of the city, at Espace Nord.

Organizing a seminar abroad represents an opportunity to bring the team members together with out-of-the-box activities, to stay in tune with the evolutions in your field and of course to discover a different culture. Mixing an amazing architectural and cultural heritage with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Brussels is a first-rate tourist destination. Boredom is not an option here!
A booming tourist destination
Brussels welcomes over 3.3 million visitors yearly, an increasing figure since the year 2000. The city stands in the limelight as a European capital. Visitors favor the historical centre with its medieval streets, especially the Grand-Place, the St Michel & Gudule cathedral and City Hall. People also like to linger in the Sablon district, its squares and Notre Dame church. Brussels offers other treasures, such as museums dedicated to comic strips or musical instruments, not to mention woods, gardens and tropical hothouses.
A vast array of team building activities
You will find a wide choice of team building activities in Brussels. Many business events and trade fairs take place yearly, and the local events agencies are quite creative. You can for instance participate in a treasure hunt and receive clues by sms, or launch your investigation to arrest a fleeing criminal. You can also experience the increasingly popular « Escape The Room » game, where you must solve an enigma in less than an hour to escape. You may also brew your first beer and taste it afterwards at the Belgian Beer Casino... It is up to you!
International trade fairs
As an economic and political capital city, Brussels is very attractive for companies which set up their seminars or staff events there. No wonder there are so many business events and trade fairs! Most of them take place at the Brussels Exhibition Centre, Northwards in Espace Nord. However, there are also lesser business centres in the outskirts of the city. Here are some of the events for the 2015 2016 season:
- Brussels Innova (World Exhibition on inventions, research and new technologies, Brussel Exhibition Centre, 19-21 November 2015)
- Zenith 50+ (Seniors event, Brussel Exhibition Centre, 22-26 November 2015)
- Brussels international motor show (Brussels Exhibition Centre, 14-24 January 2016)
- Salon du Chocolat – Brussels (Chocolate Fair, Tour & Taxis, 5-7 February 2016)
- Infosecurity Belgium (Data security, networks and communications, Brussels Exhibition Centre, 23-24 March 2016)
That was just an abstract showing the reasons why Brussels is a choice destination for your residential seminar, not to mention the varied culture and sports events taking place all year, or the discovery of its gourmet specialties. The capital city has so much to offer to groups, which will find diverse accommodation at reasonable rates. However, keeping within your spending limits in a city where rates can skyrocket at times requires a professional eye on hotels rates. Groupcorner makes your request easier: just send us an express quote request and we will find the hotels matching your needs so that you get the best deals!
